The following information is a brief overview of the rules and responsibilities for Summer College participants. Students will receive more detailed information in their “House Rules” booklet.

rule1

Nightly check-in times are 11:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and 12:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Residence staff members will conduct an evening check to be sure you are in your building. Missing the nightly check in, or other violations of residence hall rules, can result in dismissal from the program or having to be in your room starting at 7:30 pm each night.

If you want to go to bed before night check (i.e., request an "early bed check"), please contact the Residential Community Advisor (RCA) on call before 10:00 pm. Requests for early bed check cannot be accommodated after 10:00 pm. You are expected to be in your room and in bed if you request an early bed check. Staff will check your room to ensure that you have gone to bed.

rule2

During your stay on campus, you'll be responsible for the physical condition of your room and its furnishings. If your visitors damage property belonging to the university, or if items are lost from the room, it is your responsibility.

You will be responsible for cleaning your own room (and keeping it in a reasonably clean condition at all times), exchanging the bed linens weekly, and making sure your room is clean when you check out.

If something in your room is not working properly, submit a maintenance request online, and our facilities staff members will make the repair.

You are also responsible for ensuring that your room is in the same condition when you leave as it was when you arrived. You will be asked to complete a Room Inventory Condition when you arrive. If there are changes to your room (damages or missing items) at the time of check-out, you will be billed for the repair/replacements necessary.

rule3

Building custodians clean lounges and bathrooms, but please clean up after yourself in common areas. Furnishings in common areas are for the use of all residents and should not be removed. The university considers appropriation of such furnishings for personal use as theft.

rule4

Always be sure to lock your room when you leave it; there are occasional thefts of computers and other personal property. Make sure your parents' insurance policy covers your valuables and that serial numbers, descriptions, etc., are recorded in your files. The university is not responsible for loss of personal property.

rule5

Noise should be reduced at 7:30 pm to be conducive to studying. Quiet hours are in effect from the nightly check-in time until 8:00 am.

rule6

On weekdays, you may host two guests in your room per occupant. Guests must vacate your room by nightly check in.

You are not permitted to have overnight guests on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday). You may request permission to entertain one overnight guest of the same gender on a weekend night (Friday and Saturday night only). Please contact the residential staff member on your floor at least 48 hours in advance. You must also obtain consent from your roommate(s).

rule7

Smoking is prohibited in Cornell buildings and residence halls. Outside smoking is permitted 25 feet from any building. Please be aware that New York State law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from purchasing tobacco.

rule8

Alcohol and drugs are prohibited under all circumstances. Violations will be brought to the attention of the Cornell Police, and may result in expulsion from the program.
