After a hard day in the office there is no better way to ease the stress quite like loosening your tie, taking a deep breath and hurling an axe down a lane.

It may seem a radical way to beat the workday blues but axe throwing is catering to the hipster demand for a quirky night out.

The first British venue, opened by the Whistle Punks Urban Axe Throwing company at Whitechapel, east London, bills itself as “like bowling plus extreme darts on speed with a bit of danger”.

The company is planning to expand north with a site opening in Manchester in February, followed by another in Birmingham.
