Ayon kay Gilda Fortunata Altez, kadalasang nagkakaroon ng hindi pagkakaunawaan ang mga biyenang babae at manugang na babae. Payo ni Alvez, habaan ng mga manugang ang kanilang mga pasensya at maging maunawain. "Kailangan iisipin ni manugang na babae, kung wala naman si biyenan, wala naman si asawa mo. Kaya kailangan ituring mo na bilang pangalawang nanay mo ang iyong biyenan," ani Alvez. Ugat umano ng mga alitan ang pagiging maramdamin ng biyenan sa pag-aasawa ng kanilang anak at sa inklinasyong mangialam sa mga desisyon ng mag-asawa. "Siyempre itong si biyenan, bago pa lang [sa] trabaho ang anak pagkatapos ay nag-asawa, maninibugho talaga dito sa asawa. Magse-selos talaga," ani Altez. Sinabi rin ni Altez na kailangang unawain ng asawa ang kaniyang kaparehong nagbibigay ng tulong-pinansiyal sa manugang. Ngunit nilinaw ni Altez na dapat unahin ng isang asawa ang kaniyang immediate family. "Priority mo 'yung asawa mo at mga anak, hindi extended. Tulong na 'yun," aniya.
