I know I have opened some other threats that talking about the same issue again and again, but I just can't hold myself anymore with this job.
My boss is assuming me to liaise with all the HODs, which most of the time I get bang to the wall. I tried to answer some email queries from other colleagues myself (tried to be independent), but on the next day, my boss will ask me to explain to her why am I answering like that, instead of giving me feedback on more proper way of replying, if any. She will just send a bunch of documents and ask me to give comments by next two days, which I have no experience in handling them at all. At the end I bring back laptop and work until midnight. It likes asking me who just drive for 6 months to compete with Michael Schumacher.
I feel my mental is seriously drained. Today I just choose to shut down my laptop and sleep even before end of working hour after scolding by her. For first time, I can't believe I'm doing this, as I'm usually a responsible person in workplace. I sleep for 6-7 hours everyday, but I still have dark eye circle on my face. I become more and more negative, tend to sit at the bus stop alone at middle of night, just to watch car passing by. Worse, recently, I always release stress through spending money and eating sweet things, which make me spend more although with higher salary and I have gained 2 to 3kg since I start this job.
The same issue happened almost everyday, I don't know what I'm doing > follow instructions > get shoot by other team > don't hope for help, get shit done or else exceed deadline.
I tried to look for new job but no news at all. To the extend I'm thinking to just bare with a huge pay cut and join other company as an intern in order to get out of this hell.
God, please give me strength to overcome all this... Tomorrow is another day
Hey really sorry to hear what you're going through. Problems come in 2 prongs - both you and her.
#1: ExpectationsShe's expecting an experienced person to be in the role and not someone new to it. Even though later on she found out you're fresh to this, she was still unable to shake off the annoyance that she NEEDED an experienced person to be of assistance and ease the work of the department.
#2: Management of work Although you're fresh for this demanding job, try to manage the basic things. Prioritize what's important especially if it concerns the image/ impression of your division and boss.
Call it politics or whatever but that's the way it goes sometimes, esp in big companies.
Perhaps you'll do better if there's a senior or manager who can guide you with work.
#3: Experience Lets put it straight: you're inexperienced for the job. It's like a company hired a fresh grad or non-relevant background person to make him/ her do work that is technical. So this person had to find his/ her way around to learn and make it work.
You definitely need help because it's not within your capability to carry out some of these scopes of work.
Instead of worrying being scolded for what you've done, how about getting scolded upfront when you tell her that:
- You need clarification on the work assigned
- You drafted the email/ framework and want her to go through first before sending out
- You're facing a problem and you wish to discuss the solution with her
- Remind her you're new to x task and you've no experience in handling, and wish for her guidance
Some people are just plainly bad tempered. And they're stressed. They're constantly in a bad mood or simply angry.
You don't want to see them and get scolded, but trust me, it would have been unavoidable anyway if you were to hand in work that doesn't meet her expectations. Better to be scolded for asking, than to be scolded for doing the wrong thing. At least 1 of it doesn't waste time and you know what to do.
Lastly, of course, is to leave if you really cannot stand your boss. You get that peace of mind in leaving all these negativity behind, and you can sleep better.
